Abstract:

Background: With the increasing prevalence of diabetes in children and the resulting mental pressures, attention to these patients has become a health priority in the world. Psychological Distress is one of the problems of these patients that affects different aspects of their lives. It seems that enduring Psychological Distress can affect the Psychological problems of these patients. Therefore, the present study was conducted with the aim of determining the relationship between Psychological Distress and tolerance of Psychological Distress in children with diabetes in Zahedan city. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. The samples included 200 children with pediatric diabetes referred to the diabetes clinic of Ali Ibn Abi Talib (AS) hospital in Zahedan and met the inclusion criteria. The data collection tool included the demographic information form and Kessler's Psychological Distress and Gaher's Distress tolerance questionnaires, which were completed by interviewing the child. Descriptive and analytical data analysis was done using spss27 software. Results: 52.6% of all subjects studied were girls and the average duration of infection was 22.6 months. A significant relationship was found between Psychological Distress and tolerance of Psychological Distress (r = -0.65 p < 0.001). Conclusion: The findings showed that there is a significant and inverse correlation between Psychological Distress and Distress tolerance. In other words, the higher the Psychological Distress tolerance, the less Distress a person experiences. Therefore, it seems that in order to enjoy higher mental health in these patients, attention should be paid to improving their Distress tolerance.

Abstract:

Introduction: Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is characterized by excessive and uncontrollable worry about various aspects of life. One cognitive mechanism associated with GAD is worry, which serves as an attempt to manage emotional responses. However, individuals with GAD often struggle with emotional regulation, leading to significant emotional dysregulation. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) based on intolerance of uncertainty (IU), combined with an attentional bias modification (ABM) program, in reducing worry and difficulties in emotion regulation among women with GAD. Materials and Methods: This quasi-experimental study employed a pre-test/post-test/follow-up design with a control group. The study population consisted of women with GAD in Isfahan, Iran in 2024. Using convenience sampling, 30 participants were selected and randomly assigned to either the experimental group (n=15) or the control group (n=15). Data were collected using the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS) and the Penn State Worry Questionnaire (PSWQ). Results: The combination of CBT based on IU and the ABM program led to a significant reduction in worry and emotion regulation difficulties in the experimental group, both immediately after the intervention and at the two-month follow-up. Conclusion: These findings suggest that integrating an attentional bias modification program into CBT based on intolerance of uncertainty can effectively reduce worry and improve emotional regulation in subjects with GAD.

Aim and Background: Therapists in the clinics and hospitals of difficult to treat patients have always been exposed to job burnout with Psychological consequences. The purpose of this study was to investigate the protective role of Psychological capital on job burnout, Psychological Distress and psychosomatic symptoms in therapists of children with cancer. Methods and Materials: The present research is cross-sectional-correlation and its participants were 140 clinical and social therapists available in the pediatric oncology department of Isfahan hospitals. 132 people completed Questionnaires of Psychological capital, Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS) and somatization symptoms. To data analyses, multivariate regression and covariance analysis were used. All analyses were done using SPSS-20 software and AMOS was used for Structural equation modelling (SEM). Findings: The results showed that Psychological capital has a significant and inverse direct effect on burnout, psychosomatic symptoms and Psychological Distress. Also, a positive and significant direct relationship between burnout and psychosomatic and Psychological symptoms was obtained. The results of the non-parametric bootstrap method showed that the indirect effect of Psychological capital through job burnout on psychosomatic and Psychological Distress is significant and this effect is stronger on psychosomatic symptoms. Conclusions: The findings of this study showed the protective role of positive Psychological abilities, which is conceptualized in the form of Psychological capital, including the components of hope, self-efficacy, resilience, and optimism, on the adjustment of job burnout, Psychological Distress, and psychosomatic complaints of therapists in oncology wards. Abstract:

Background: Psychological Distress is a type of mental stress that people experiencedue to various causes. This study aims to investigate Psychological Distress in cancerpatients. Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed during one year on cancerpatients who referred to two academic hospitals affiliated with Mashhad University ofMedical Sciences for treatment or follow-up. We used the Psychological Distressquestionnaire for data collection. Results were analyzed using SPSS version 16. P<0. 05 was considered significant. Results: Patients had a mean ± SD age of 54± 15. 30 years (range: 18 to 89). The mostcommon cancers were colorectal, gastroesophageal, and breast. Patients had a meanDistress thermometer score of 5± 2. 99. Out of 256 patients, 173 (67. 7%) scored 4 or higher. The Distress thermometer scores were higher among females, rural residents, patientstreated within the previous month, patients with insight of their illness, those with loweducation levels and low functional status, non-smokers, and divorced patients. Asignificant relationship existed between patients who had insight of their illness, received treatment in the previous month, and low functional status with the PsychologicalDistress score. The most prevalent cause of Psychological Distress among the participantswas fatigue (68. 8%), followed by pain (59. 4%), difficulty in transportation (59. 4%), anxiety (57. 2%), sadness (50. 4%), anger (44. 5%), and depression (43. 8%). Conclusion: The results of this study have revealed higher rates of severePsychological Distress in women, rural residents, patients with low educational andfunctional status, drug abusers, and divorced patients. Therefore, early detection ofPsychological Distress and appropriate interventions among these groups of patients isof cardinal importance. The most prevalent causes of Psychological Distress among thepatients in the current study are fatigue and pain. We recommend that supportive andpalliative care be implemented to reduce both the pain and enhance the functional statusof cancer patients.

Abstract:

Formation of identity entails the integration of skills, world view and identification which emerges as a relatively cohesive, unique and differentiated whole. An integrated explanatory self which identifies the individual’s thought and behavior and can be regarded as the underlying arena for Psychological Distress. The research purpose was to investigate the relationship between identity styles and Psychological Distress. Therefore, in a descriptive-correlative study, 3245 college students (1703 male students and 1534 female students) were tested with regard to the identity styles and Psychological Distress. The correlation results of the scores indicated that information-oriented style, normative style and identity commitment are significantly negatively correlated to Psychological Distress; however, diffuse avoidant style was significantly, positively correlated to Psychological Distress. It seems that, individuals who adopt diffuse-avoidant style delay decision-making on their identity and gradually these maladaptive and avoidant strategies give rise to Distress.

Abstract:

Nowadays, an estimated 15% of couples are having trouble conceiving. Infertility is not only a reproductive health problem, but also a social problem that affects family and other interpersonal relationships. Infertility involves Psychological problems for both partners. There is a correlation between Psychological factors and infertility. It seems that the main cause of infertility can be Psychological rather than biological factors. Anxiety, depression, stress associated with infertility and antidepressants used in these patient can impact in the treatment of infertility and their outcomes. Persistent fertility problem will have several negative influences on a couple's life and may cause relationship breakdown. Therefore, more research should be conducted on the reasons of infertility as a way to find the factors related to infertility and reduce its impact.
